Transfer Music From IPod To PC

So what do you do if your PC crashes and you lose all of your iTunes music in the reinstall?

No need to download anything apart from iTunes, there is a quick and easy way to copy the music from your iPod back in to your PC with no extra software.

The only problem with this method is that you lose your playlists and playcounts etc. But it is definitely better than losing all your music (32GB in my case)

Instructions:
1. Make sure that you are displaying hidden files and folders, if not go to tools -> Folder Options -> "view" tab and select the option Show Hidden Files and Folders

2. Dock your iPod

3. When the message pops up saying that "This iPod is associated with a library on another computer......." click NO, this is very important!

4. In itunes go to edit -> preferences ->\"advanced\" tab

5. Select where you would like your library to go, the default should be fine in most cases

6. Enable the following options: Keep iTunes Folder Organised, Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library

7. Close the preferences window and go to file -> Add folder to library and your iPod should be in the list of drives under my computer (usually all uppercase chars and called "whatevers ipod")

8. Smile :) and wait for the files to copy over, length of time depends on how much music you have.

9. Eject your iPod using the eject icon next to it in iTunes, dock it again and this time answer yes, it will empty your iPod and copy the files back on to it, it can take a while as the microdrives used arent the nippiest thing in the world.

This technique can also be used to copy the music on your iPod on to a friends computer and vice versa!
